The challenge

The goal was to design a multifaceted app that made booking an appointment, filling in health questionnaires, and chatting with specialists easy. The project required designing the app from scratch. The team and I started with research sessions where we explored user needs, brainstormed possible solutions, and prioritised main features to consider on the MVP (Minimum Viable Product).

Below you can see the development of the MVP product, starting from research to the design stage.

Research

Today, women's health is taking a higher position in society and people are realising its importance, the rise in its priority is also reflected in the tech world.

According to the Grand View Research, the global women's health app market size was valued at 1 billion USD in 2018 and it's expected to grow by 17.9% over the forecast period.

We surveyed 10 women between 25 and 55 about the importance of hormonal health and their app usage. With all this information we defined two personas:

Card details screen
Card details screen
Card details screen
App home screen with the latest transactions
App home screen with the latest transactions
App home screen with the latest transactions

Information architecture

At this stage of the process we understood user needs, concerns, and feelings. Our next step was organising and structuring the content to help users find the information needed and complete tasks across the app.

Low-fidelity mockups

Once the user flow was created, we worked on visuals to finalise the user experience of the app. This step was very helpful to get all the ideas out of the way, and keep what works best for the next steps.

UI designs

The user can easily book an appointment in just a few clicks. Highlighting doctors' availability helps the user know when the visit is possible. A user can also take a questionnaire to learn more about their hormonal health.

Key takeaways

Thanks to all the previous research and usability tests, we were able to build a solid starting point to scale up the app. We were able to achieve our goal of making an intuitive, appealing, and easy to use product.
